1 CREATIVE CRITICAL REFLECTION

How does your film opening represent social groups or issues?

The clear issues within this film is the deadly virus. This virus does not discriminate or target one social group more than the other but it is more of a broad issue fo the human race rather than individual groups. This issue is extremely pressing could result in may worldwide fatalities.
There are multiple stereo groups represented in our production and are generally represented in a stereotypical form. These groups include NHS doctors wearing lab coats and government officials wearing smart suits. The location of where these groups are placed also help to emphasise the meaning. This is shown when the Health Minister addresses the press with an evasive speech outside the mighty government building which reinforces the tone of power and control. There are some groups that weren't directly represented through the use of actors such as newspaper journalists but still played a prominent role in the escalation in fear. The newspaper was a red top which actively searches for stories that are either scary, sad or depressing for increased sales which this paper has effectively done

  1. Video analysis + Pinterest. The voiceover shows strong understanding of how film language makes meaning but only implies rather than analyses how film opening conventions are employed. Brief but clear summary of social groups and issues.
